An exterior view of Stromness Branch library

Stromness Library

Stromness Library is situated at the bottom of Hellihole Road, in the building it has occupied since 1905 when it was gifted to the library service by Marjory Skea (or Corrigall).

We have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction titles available for loan as well as books on tape, music CDs and a bright, well stocked childrens section. We also have a reference collection, housed upstairs in our cosy reference room, and a fascinating collection of old editions of the Orcadian newspaper which are available for study upon request. In the main library you will find an up to date selection of local and national newspapers and magazines covering a wide range of subjects and interests.

If the book you want is not available we offer an inter library loan service through which you can borrow books from libraries throughout the country. More information...

For details of opening times please select Opening Hours from the Library services drop down menu.

Please note: In a change to the advertised opening hours Stromness Library will be open from 10.30am to 1.00pm on Wednesday 24 December 2008. It will then close and re-open at 2.00pm on Monday 5 January 2009
