There are boxes avaialable from other organisations which can be borrowed for use in the classroom.

Skara Brae Handling Box
The box is available for Orkney Schools focusing on the theme of life in the prehistoric village. It contains replica artefacts found on the site, along with a teachers’ pack that includes photocopiable pupil work sheets, ideas for classroom based activities, a photo CD and reference books.

Viking Handling Box
The box is available for Orkney Schools focusing on the theme of Viking life. It contains replica artefacts found at Viking sites such as Jarlshof and the Brough of Birsay, along with a teachers’ pack that includes photocopiable pupil work sheets, ideas for classroom based activities, a photo CD, a DVD and reference books.

Two Orkney Marine Resource Chests
These boxes are available for Orkney Schools focusing on Orkney’s marine life. They contain objects, games and resources for activities along with a teachers’ pack that includes photocopiable pupil work sheets, ideas for activities, slides, reference books and a life-size white beaked dolphin jigsaw.

 

Sea Chest
The chest is available for Orkney Schools focusing on Scotland’s coast and the seas around it. It contains a handbook with ideas and activities as well as ID guides and fact sheets. There are also several books and models of sea creatures.

 

Two Microscope boxes
These boxes for loan contain two microscopes; one has a x10 power, the other x40 power. The boxes also contain slides for use with the x40 microscope.

 

Three Environmental Community Chests
These boxes are available for loan for use with all age groups. They contain books, posters, videos, leaflets and sound tapes with an environmental theme. As well as a handbook that contains suggestions for activities and ideas on a wide range of environmental issues.
