Orkney Library & Archive holds many events, groups, meetings and exhibitions throughout the year so whether you live in Orkney or are just visiting you should find something of interest. Many of our events are even covered live through our Twitter and Facebook pages so you can join in from wherever you are in the world. Other forthcoming events are:  16 August 2018 Gill Sims - Kirkwall SOLD OUT Best-selling author of Why Mummy Drinks and Why Mummy Swears and creator of the hilarious Peter and Jane Facebook Blog, Gill Sims will be joining us to discuss her writing and her family life with her precious moppets and the wonderful Judgy Dog. Join us in the MacGillivray Room at 7pm - this event is FREE but ticketed so please get in touch to reserve your space. 18 August 2018 Saturday Slaughters Book Club - Kirkwall Saturday Slaughters Book Club is our regular library reading group for crime fiction. The group meets in the Carnegie Room at 2.30pm. Find out more on our Book Club page. 23 August 2018 Philip Paris - Kirkwall Author of The Italian Chapel Philip Paris will be launching his new novel Effie’s War and talking to us about his writing, and where his inspiration comes from. Join us in the MacGillivray Room at 7pm - this event is FREE but ticketed so please get in touch to reserve your space. 1 September 2018 Saturday Book Club - Kirkwall Saturday Book Club is taking a break for the summer but will be back in September. The group reads a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction. Find out more on our Book Club page. 6 September 2018 Les Cowan - Kirkwall Author of Benefit of the Doubt, Les Cowan will be joining us to launch All That Glitters - the second book in his David Hidalgo crime thriller series. The event is FREE so come along to the MacGillivray Room at 7pm. 8 September 2018 Ann Cleeves - Kirkwall Ann is returning to Orkney Library & Archive to celebrate the launch of her new novel Wild Fire - the last book in her popular Shetland series. Join us for a Coffee Morning in the MacGillivray Room from 10.30am where Ann will discuss her writing with us while we all have tea and cake. A selection of Ann’s books will also be available for sale. Tickets for this event are £3 and spaces are limited so please get in touch to reserve a place. 17 September 2018 Stromness Book Group - Stromness Stromness Book Group is a general reading group which reads a range of fiction and non-fiction. The group meets in the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness at 5.30pm. Find out more on our Book Club page November 2018 Hurricane Book Club - Kirkwall Hurricane Book Club is an online book group that was launched in 2016 as a collaboration between Orkney Library and the publisher Pan MacMillan and it has now grown to include a small group of Scottish libraries. We’re looking forward to the launch of Season 4 of Hurricane Book Club in November 2018. The group meets in the Carnegie Room at 6pm and everyone is welcome to come along and join in or to participate on the Hurricane Book Club Twitter page using the hashtag #HurricaneBookClub.
